When Wintrust took over the lease on the iconic Mural Building along the Kennedy Expressway in 2013, the goal was to feature local non-profits, community groups and events that are improving the greater Chicago community. There’s been artwork inspired by The Great Chicago Fire Hydrants project, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana, Chicagoland Habitat for Humanity, The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, Bernie’s Book Bank and SOS Children’s Villages Illinois, among others. These are organizations and projects that step up and lend a hand to our friends and neighbors in need and Wintrust is proud to recognize each one.
Our current mural honors March of Dimes and highlights the fact that if you were born in the last 75 years, you are a March of Dimes baby. The original mission of the organization we now know as March of Dimes was to provide polio patient aid and fund research for vaccines. The organization was successful; the vaccines it funded effectively ended the polio epidemic in the United States.
Today, March of Dimes focuses on preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality and to educate medical professionals and the public about best practices for healthy pregnancies.
