Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks (on a budget)

While it’s fun to sample ballpark treats, planning ahead can save you a lot of money. Not only are concession items expensive, but there are also long lines that prevent you from sitting and enjoying the game. We’ve got some savvy tips to help you stay on budget:

Cubs

  • Don’t forget to hydrate! Good thing unopened plastic water bottles are allowed into Wrigley Field. Bringing your own water will save you at least $6 per bottle in the park.
  • Bring a snack for later. While hard-sided coolers and thermoses aren’t allowed in the stadium, you can bring a snack or two in a sealed bag. This can help you avoid the munchies and allow you to splurge on a special entrée or drink!
  • Have you heard of the Cubs Dollars program? It’s a fun way to purchase “dollars” that you can redeem at any concession stand for food or beverages. They don’t expire and the ballpark can update them from year to year. These pre-purchased Cubs Dollars can help you keep your spending on track and bring some team spirit to your purchase!

White Sox

  • It’s tailgate time! One way to save on food costs is to bring your own meal and tailgate in the parking lots before the game starts. This is a classic South Side tradition, and people bring grills, tables and enjoy each other’s company while saving on concession food items. This creates a community environment and fans can share and sample other dishes and drinks. Enjoy!
  • Save on essentials. If you’re a Sox fan, you can bring in one sealed water bottle that is one liter or less to the park. This will save you at least $6 on water alone. Not a bad idea for the hot summer weather.
  • Comiskey Cash for kids and adults. The White Sox have their own Comiskey Cash that is accepted as currency throughout the stadium. This option can help you pre-plan your finances. Plus, it’s a fun way to teach your kids about money while enjoying baseball!
